Microsoft released four Windows 11 Insider Preview builds across all active channels on April 3, 2026. The theme across all channels is consistent: haptic feedback for mice, Xbox mode for gaming, reliability fixes, and a print crash that had been affecting recent flights is now resolved.
The Headline Feature: Haptic Feedback for Mice
The most notable new feature landing across both the Beta and Dev channels is haptic feedback for compatible input devices. On supported mice, Windows 11 will now deliver subtle vibration effects during specific actions — window snapping, resizing, hovering over the Close button, or aligning objects in apps like PowerPoint. The feature can be configured at Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Mouse → Haptic Signals. Not all mice support it, and the rollout is gradual — not every Insider will see it immediately.

Beta Channel: Build 26220.8148
The Beta Channel build is the most relevant for users wanting to see where Windows 11 is heading in the near term. Alongside haptic feedback, Microsoft is adding a new icon in print settings to indicate whether a printer supports Windows Protected Print Mode — a security feature that restricts print drivers to a safer subset. The full-screen gaming experience has been refreshed and rebranded as Xbox mode, with a cleaner first-run setup. A crash that was preventing some Insiders from printing on recent flights has also been resolved.
Dev Channel: Build 26300.8155
The Dev Channel receives the same haptic feedback and Xbox mode features as Beta, plus a few additions. App startup performance after boot has been improved — background apps listed under Settings → Apps → Startup should launch faster. A connection error that was causing some apps to falsely report being offline has been fixed. Notably, a Feature Flags page has been partially added to Windows Insider Program settings — this would allow Insiders to manually toggle individual features on and off without needing third-party tools. It’s not enabled yet, but its presence suggests Microsoft is moving toward more user-controlled feature rollouts.
Canary Channel: Builds 28020.1803 and 29560.1000
The Canary Channel received two builds. The 28020.1803 build focuses on input and developer tooling: pen settings now let users configure the tail button to launch the same app as the Copilot key, voice typing configuration is more reliable, the Developer Mode dialog has been updated to match the modern Windows 11 visual style, and a false positive error from sfc /scannow has been fixed.
The optional 29560.1000 build on the 29500 series addresses stability: some Insiders on recent Canary flights were experiencing system freezes and USB devices suddenly disconnecting. Both issues have been targeted in this release. The 29500 series is the most experimental path and is not recommended as a daily driver.
How to Get the Builds
All builds are available via Settings → Windows Update on enrolled Insider devices. To receive new features as soon as they roll out, enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they are available” toggle in Windows Update settings. Note that not all features reach every device simultaneously — Microsoft uses controlled rollouts to monitor feedback before expanding availability. Windows Insiders can report feedback via the Feedback Hub app.
