Apple Releases iOS 26.3.1, macOS Tahoe 26.3.1, iPadOS 26.3.1 & visionOS 26.3.1 with Studio Display Support

Apple has released iOS 26.3.1, macOS Tahoe 26.3.1, iPadOS 26.3.1, and visionOS 26.3.1 on March 4, 2026, adding support for the new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR along with bug fixes across all platforms.

Apple released iOS 26.3.1, iPadOS 26.3.1, macOS Tahoe 26.3.1, and visionOS 26.3.1 on March 4, 2026. These updates rolled out simultaneously across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro, and bring support for Apple’s newly announced Studio Display and Studio Display XDR — along with general bug fixes.

What’s New in iOS 26.3.1 & iPadOS 26.3.1

The headline addition in iOS and iPadOS 26.3.1 is support for Apple’s refreshed external displays. If you’re using an iPhone as a desktop-style setup, the update ensures your device plays nicely with the new 27-inch Studio Display (2026) and the pro-tier Studio Display XDR. Beyond display compatibility, Apple bundled in unspecified bug fixes. Importantly, Apple’s security releases page confirms these updates carry no published CVE entries — meaning this isn’t a critical security patch, but more of a hardware compatibility and stability release.

iOS 26.3.1 supports all devices running iOS 26, which includes iPhone 11 and later, plus the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer. If your device is on iOS 18.x, Apple separately released iOS 18.7.6 with display support as well.

What’s New in macOS Tahoe 26.3.1

macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 is primarily about getting your Mac ready for Apple’s newest monitors. The official release notes state the update “expands external display support to include Studio Display (2026) and Studio Display XDR along with bug fixes for your Mac.” If you plan to pick up either of the new displays, this update is effectively required for the best experience — Apple’s own compatibility notes list macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 or later as a prerequisite.

A few things worth knowing before you update:

  • Download size: The macOS update is 12GB+, so plan accordingly and have a good connection ready.
  • No security patches: Like its iOS counterpart, this release has no published CVE entries, so it’s not an urgent security update.
  • Tahoe only: There are no corresponding updates for macOS Sequoia or Sonoma.
  • macOS 26.4 incoming: Apple is actively developing the next update, which is expected to bring additional features and security patches.
  • Intel Mac users: macOS Tahoe 26 remains the last version to support Intel-based Macs. macOS 27 will be Apple Silicon only.

What’s New in visionOS 26.3.1

Apple Vision Pro also received visionOS 26.3.1, bringing the same Studio Display compatibility and bug fix package to the spatial computing headset.

New Studio Display & Studio Display XDR — Worth the Upgrade?

The reason for this update in the first place: Apple’s refreshed Studio Display lineup. The standard Studio Display (2026) continues the 27-inch 5K Retina formula, while the new Studio Display XDR steps up to a 27-inch 5K mini-LED panel with up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 120Hz Adaptive Sync refresh rate — aimed squarely at creative professionals. Note that Macs with M1, M2, or M3 chips are capped at 60Hz on the XDR, while newer chips can access the full 120Hz experience.

If you’re in the market, both displays are available on Amazon:

And if you’re thinking about picking up one of the new Macs that launched alongside this update:
