A new jailbreak called Amethyst has appeared for iOS 12 and 13, and its scope is broader than most: it targets all devices, not just older hardware. That means iPhones and iPads running A12 and A13 chips that have never had a publicly available jailbreak for these OS versions now have one.
What It Supports
Amethyst is developed by staturnzz and covers iOS 12 and iOS 13 on all compatible devices. The “all devices” claim is significant. Previous jailbreaks for iOS 12/13 were largely limited to A8 through A11 hardware via the checkm8 exploit, which left iPhone XS, XR, and iPhone 11 owners on those OS versions without options. Amethyst changes that. The tool uses the Trigon kernel exploit from Alfie CG, and credits opa334 and several other well-known names in the security research community.
Why iOS 12 and 13 Still Matter
It might seem odd to release a new jailbreak for operating systems that are several generations old, but there’s a real audience for this. Some users deliberately stay on older iOS versions to maintain compatibility with apps or tweaks that broke on newer releases. Others have older devices they prefer to keep on a specific version. iOS 12 in particular is notable as the last version to support the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6, devices that still have active users. A jailbreak that covers all devices on these versions gives those users more options than they’ve had.
Installation
Installation instructions are available at ios.cfw.guide, the standard reference for jailbreak guides. The IPA is available through the official GitHub releases page. As with any jailbreak, back up your device before proceeding.
