Apple Releases iOS 26.5.1 and macOS Tahoe 26.5.1 with Bug Fixes for Newest Hardware

Apple has released iOS 26.5.1 and macOS Tahoe 26.5.1, a pair of quick bug fix updates that follow last month’s iOS 26.5 release. Neither update contains security patches , Apple’s security release page lists both as having no published CVE entries , which means these are targeted fixes for specific bugs rather than vulnerability patches.

Build Numbers

  • iOS 26.5.1: 23F81
  • macOS Tahoe 26.5.1: 25F80

iPhone 17 and iPhone Air Only

The iOS update is notable for its narrow scope. iOS 26.5.1 is available only for iPhone 17 (all models) and iPhone Air , the newest hardware in Apple’s lineup. Older iPhones that received iOS 26.5 are staying on that version for now. That targeting strongly suggests Apple found a hardware-specific bug on the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air that didn’t affect older devices, and wanted to get a fix out quickly ahead of WWDC next week.

Apple hasn’t detailed what the bug fix addresses. Point releases with no CVE entries and narrow device targeting tend to fix stability issues, display glitches, or performance regressions rather than anything security-related.

macOS Tahoe 26.5.1

The macOS update applies to all Macs running macOS Tahoe. Like the iOS update, it carries no security fixes. Apple is likely addressing one or more bugs that surfaced after the 26.5 release on May 11.

Timing

The releases land one week before WWDC 2026, where Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 and the next generation of its OS lineup. Pushing bug fixes now clears the slate before the conference and ensures the current release is as stable as possible heading into the transition. iOS 26.6 beta 1 is already seeded to developers, so the focus is clearly shifting forward.

How to Update

On iPhone, go to Settings, then General, then Software Update. On Mac, open System Settings, then General, then Software Update. The updates are free.
